Cover Reveal – The Sky Above Us

The Sky Above Us by Sarah Sundin, February 2019 from Revell BooksToday, on the 74th anniversary of the D-Day landings, I’m pleased to reveal the cover for my upcoming D-Day novel The Sky Above Us, Book 2 in the Sunrise at Normandy series.

The book is available at Amazon and other sites soon and as an e-book and audiobook.

Sunrise at Normandy Series

One fateful night drove three brothers apart.

One fateful day thrusts them together…D-Day.

The Sky Above Us

(Book 2, coming February 5, 2019)

Secrets as vast . . .

Love as unreachable . . .

As the sky above them.

Numbed by grief and harboring shameful secrets, Lt. Adler Paxton ships to England with the US 357th Fighter Group in late 1943. Determined to become an ace P-51 Mustang pilot, Adler battles the German Luftwaffe in treacherous dogfights over France as the Allies struggle for control of the air before the D-day invasion.

Violet Lindstrom wants to be a missionary, but for now she serves in the American Red Cross, where she arranges entertainment and refreshments for the men of the 357th in the base Aeroclub and sets up programs for local children. Drawn to the mysterious Adler, she enlists his help with her work and urges him to reconnect with his family after a long estrangement.

Despite himself, Adler finds his defenses crumbling when it comes to Violet. But D-day draws near. And secrets can’t stay buried forever.

Return to the shores of Normandy, this time in the air, as the second Paxton brother faces the past—and the most fearsome battle of his life.

  25. Sandra Spilecki says:

With so many members my family having been in the service (many branches) I find your books fascinating. Thank you. It helps to know what their jobs were like. So many do not speak of their times. They just want to forget, especially those who were the real heroes.

    • Sarah Sundin says:

I’m glad the stories help you understand. I can imagine why so many of the servicemen can’t talk about their experiences, so I really appreciate those who have.

  26. Patrice Doten says:

    Beautiful cover, how exciting!

  27. Lori Smanski says:

what a generous give a way. thanks for the chance. I would love to read another of your books. I really loved When Tides Turn

  28. Cathy says:

I think this is one of my favorites of all your covers, and I am glad you are doing this series focused on the build up and launch of the invasion on D-Day. I had family members involved on that day, too, one a B-26 pilot based in England. The grit, determination, know-how, and hurried technological advances were amazing.

    • Sarah Sundin says:

Thanks, Cathy! When I got deep into my research for this story, I almost wished I’d made Adler a B-26 pilot – they did some amazing things on D-day at Utah Beach!

  29. Barbara Hamby says:

Love the covers….at least the dress ware that she has on lets you know what time period the books are in…

  30. Meghan says:

I LOVE this cover! My favorite aspect are the planes in the background 🙂 and I just love all your books! My favorite thing about your books is how the all of characters have issues that they struggle with and by the end have learned how to work through them with the help of their christian faith. It inspires me and helps me to work through my own issues. I cannot wait to read this book! I loved The Sea Before us and I don’t know how I will last until book 2 releases in February. :p :p lol

    • Sarah Sundin says:

Thank you, Meghan! The Lord is constantly challenging me in my own walk, so those stories leak out 🙂 He teaches me through my characters too!

  35. Danielle Diez says:

The cover is so beautiful! It’s funny, normally I am not a fan of seeing a character’s face on a book, but all of your covers and characters have been so lovely that I really enjoy looking at them (and am inspired by their classy appearances!)! ?
So excited to read The Sky Above Us! Thank you for this opportunity and for following God’s calling to write ?

  36. Judy Collings says:

I know a digital book might be quicker but some books are meant to treasure and read again so it is great to have the actual book.Having a face to go with the story gives it even more depth. My first reaction was “She looks so young!” , but really most of these wonderful people were not so very old were they?

    • Sarah Sundin says:

No, they weren’t. Violet and Adler are both 25 – that was the minimum age for an overseas Red Cross worker, but was old for a pilot! So many were 19-21!

  37. Brenda Lee Dickson says:

Gorgeous cover ~ I can hardly wait to read it!

  47. LindaB says:

Yesterday, I was looking at some old pictures for a project. The pictures I chose were of my Grandfather and his brothers in uniform (individually). They served in WWII as did my Grandmother’s brother-in-law. If you still have a veteran (no matter the war) around, please give them a hug and let them know you appreciate and love them so much.
Grandfather was my hero (and not just because of his service to his country).
    ps Your cover is beautiful.
Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway.

    • Sarah Sundin says:

I love this so much. I miss my veteran grandfather and my Home Front grandmothers. I’m so thankful they were storytellers – and that I actually listened!

      • LindaB says:

I’m gratefully that by the time I was old enough to listen that my Grandfather actually wanted to talk about it. He talked to my brother and me about his trip over and some of the things he remembered about England.

  48. Debrah says:

Sarah, I always look forward to your new series. I appreciate your desire to help all of us to remember the sacrifice of those who served during WWII. Time is quickly passing and everyday 372 men and women die who served during that time in our country’s history. Thanks for your love of history and sharing what a difficult time it was for all Americans. I can’t wait to read “The Sea Before Us”!! Thank you for the giveaway.

    • Debrah says:

I can’t believe I posted and got the wrong book title!! I have read the first book in the series and look forward to book 2 “The Sky Above Us”. Thank you again Sarah!

As alway Sarah, the cover is beautiful. Excited to read it!

  50. Mary Dicke says:

Interested about the link the Mighty 8th museum. My daughter and son-in-law just visited there. My husband’s uncle, Vernon Dicke, is depicted there playing chess with another man…The two men were in the same stulag in WWII…they carved the chess set out of wood and played chess while in prison. Can’t wait to visit and see it myself.

  51. Lori Stewart says:

  52. Lynne H. Flake says:

I have read all your books so far, and am looking forward to this new one. You capture the feeling of the World War II era well. You have the ability to create interesting characters. After I read your first novel, A Distant Melody, I happened to be in Antioch to visit the tall ship moored there and tried to recreate the looks of the buildings that could have been there in the 1940s. Thanks for writing these novels!

    • Sarah Sundin says:

What fun, Lynne! Actually many of the buildings downtown haven’t changed – there would have been fewer cars and more pedestrians, however 🙂

  53. Aliyah friesen says:

  74. John Rieber (aka John Karlsson) says:

Beautiful cover, and fascinating story set-up. Here at the Veterans Home there are a lot of tough-talking vets who never flew anything more dangerous than a desk. One of my best friends here was a ground support crewman in WW II for an AAF Tactical Fighter/Bomber squadron. He waded ashore on D-Day+5, survived the Battle of the Bulge, crossed the Rhine on a pontoon bridge next to the ruins of the famous Bridge at Remagen (which had finally collapsed, but not before several brigades of US Infantry had managed to cross it and secure the bridgehead.) He followed the infantry all the way to Czechoslovakia, which the U.S. had to turn over to the Russians, per prior treaty agreement. He then spent 6 months guarding German POWs, and listening to the English-speaking ones gripe about how they should have won the war if it hadn’t been for the mistakes of “their leaders” (but they never mentioned Hitler by name.)
I served as an Artillery Forward Observer in the 5th Infantry during the “Vietnam Era” (but NOT in Vietnam). I was fortunate enough to finish my hitch and be discharged before the 5th Div was sent to Vietnam.)
P.S. I’m not sure if I entered the giveaway correctly. Could you check and let me know?

  75. Ellen says:

Love the cover, and the series is great looking forward to book 2
