80 Years Ago—Dec. 2, 1940: In convoy HX-90 off Ireland, German U-boats sink eight Allied ships, including British armed merchant cruiser Forfar.

Italy rations pasta (2 kg/month), and restaurants are limited to serving pasta at only one meal per day.

75 Years Ago—Dec. 2, 1945: US Ninth Air Force (tactical air force based in England) is inactivated.

Albania holds first postwar elections, won by Democratic Front (communist), the only party on the ballot.
