75 Years Ago—Dec. 18, 1943: Chiang Kai-shek gives US Gen. Joseph Stilwell full command of Chinese troops in India & Burma.
New song in Top Ten: “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

Gen. and Madame Chiang Kai-shek and Gen. Joseph Stilwell, April 1942 (US National Archives)
That has to be one of my favorite songs!
Mine too 🙂 It inspired my novella, also called “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” in Where Treetops Glisten.
Love the song and there was a TV movie with Eva Marie Saint that I loved about a family anticipating their son coming home from the war.
Did I ever tell you that my mother grew up in China as a missionary kid?Their summer home was right next store to Chaing and Mrs Chaing.
I’ll have to look for that movie! No, I don’t think I’ve heard about your mother – how interesting!
